PH education webinars for teachers
The word webinar is an example of a portmanteau, where two words are joined together to form another word with a unified meaning. The webinar is a combination of the words “web” and “seminar.”
PH education has introduced the webinar to its teachers as a means of delivering vital information on guidelines to be followed for the upcoming school opening in the country. Since social distancing must be strictly observed, using online technology was the most convenient way to hand over information to teachers without compromising their health.
The webinars for teachers will help guide them in adjusting for the new normal in PH education. The Department of Education (DepEd) is planning to apply a blended learning program for this coming school year. Blended learning consists of printed out learning modules, online learning, and mass media outlets.
Private schools looking to increase tuition fees
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones wanted to clarify that the tuition fee increase in private schools is a decision to be made by the school’s management. But, the secretary reminded private school administrators that an increase could only be allowed after the deliberation of respective DepEd Regional officers.
A mandate is imposed on private schools, that for every tuition fee hike, 70 percent of the amount should go into teacher’s salary after other expenditures are crossed out on the computation.
The proposed tuition fee hike is in line with the adjustments to be made by private schools, gearing towards online learning. School administrators pointed out the purchase of new gadgets and other resources to help aid in the distance learning set-up imposed by the DepEd.
Briones emphasized, it is an internal decision, school administrators just have to come clean with the details on the allocation of the funding taken from the tuition fee hike.
In Public schools, enrollment through phone calls and social media has begun, the remote enrollment will last until last the day of June. As for those who failed to enroll during the allotted period, they can physically inquire at the nearest school to them, given social distancing will be strictly observed.
