University workers in Nigeria are organizing protests

University workers form Nigerian higher education institutions are going to organize a strike, as there are a number of problems that have not been addressed by the government for too long.
Some of the main concerns of university staff are the delays in payments of salaries for several previous months.
The strike actions will continue over the course of one week, and hopefully, by the end of that period, protesters, schools and the government will have reached an agreement.
University workers have decided to go through with their protest, four months after the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria agreed to suspend their strike action.

Non-Academic university workers

While the primary purpose of universities is to provide quality education to students, this mission is impossible without the efforts of non-academic university workers.
Recently, university staff members in the United Kingdom also raised their voices against the unfair remuneration non-academic workers and teaching assistants get.
According to the Non-Academic Staff Union, the organization first warned that they demanded their salaries in full in a letter.  However, as the union did not receive an answer to their letter, they announced that they would be going on a five-day warning strike starting Monday.
The union has instructed all workers from participating universities to honor the decision, and refrain from going to work. If workers fail to comply with the instructions, they will be sanctioned by the union.
University workers should be treated with the respect they deserve, as any university is an environment that needs care, and these are the people doing that.
