University rankings should be ignored

University rankings have made some learning institutions remain at the top based on the actuality that they comprise of many wealthy students. As a result, their rankings are sometimes prompted by the wealth accrued as compared to merit.
University rankings have made parents do almost anything to ensure that their children are admitted to the top and prestigious educational institutions. 
Notably, scandals have been inevitable in some of the top varsities; hence, questioning the procedure utilized in university rankings.

University rankings considerably influence society

Notably, those individuals who hold top places in society are usually educated at universities. For instance, most media, business, and government leaders hold a university education.
The role they play is crucial in determining the policies to be adapted, and they often have a significant impact on the current society, as well as future generations. 
For example, research conducted at universities has an impact on everybody’s daily life ranging from climate change solutions to medical treatments. 
As a result, people should not be oblivious to the actuality that some university rankings may be bias based on some of the scandals witnessed. 
For instance, John Vandermoer, Stanford’s sailing coach, admitted to having recommended two (2) applicants in exchange for him benefiting from contributions made in a sailing program. 
The notion depicted is that top-ranked universities often take part in questionable activities. This reality is, however, watered down by the fact that they are viewed as exemplars and other universities across the globe ought to emulate them. 

University rankings depict inequity

The current university structure accepted by society depicts significant injustice. This is the scenario with the American one, despite it showing signs of inequality as evidenced by the urge for stronger gun laws in US educational institutions
In spite of its top-ranking, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) also got involved in a scandal where it concealed funding it attained from Jeffrey Epstein, who admitted to having solicited a minor.
The notion depicted is that university rankings at times do not commemorate with the activities undertaken in the top varsities.
