The University of the Philippines system ranks top on the list of Philippine universities included in Google’s Scholar Citation rankings.
Google’s Webometrics
Google conducts a constant assessment of scholars from Top Universities worldwide with published works being cited frequently.
Google Scholar Citations is a feature created by Google to provide authors to track down the number of citations their published paperwork has. Basically, it provides information on how often a publication is being cited, who cites your publication, and other metrics that are related to the citation of an article.
A high citation count does not only bring bragging rights to the author and the University he belongs to but also serves as a confirmation that all the hard work given to those articles are being given recognition and acknowledged by other interested individuals.
There are several ways to boost citation count on Google’s webometrics; here are some tips that can help boost an article’s citation count.
- Choose the right keywords. Keywords help researchers efficiently look for related articles on the topic they are working on
- Legit information. Make sure all information related to the article, such as personal details, university details, and all other significant information that would attract a general keyword are correct.
- Share your data. Allowing the public access to your data and making it shareable, attracts citations from general users.
- Promote your accomplishments. There is no harm in promoting your own work. You can start it out by sharing it on your social media platforms. Afterwhich, you can use education forums to share your work, making it very accessible to interested parties, thus, garnering more citations.
The University of the Philippines tops seven others
In the recent Webometrics Ranking of World Universities by Google, the University of the Philippines (UP) topped the ranking within the Philippines. The disparity between the number of citations from the top spot to the next one is more than doubled. It just shows the dedication and attention to quality that the UP system has for its published works.
Most of the Universities listed on the rankings are from Luzon with the University of the Philippines leading the way at 113743 citations, followed by De La Salle University (51390), UP Diliman (41826), Ateneo de Manila University (16912), and University of Santo Tomas (7,776). Two Universities outside of Luzon made it to the cut, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (6729), and University of San Carlos (1610), which is from the Visayas.
What propelled the University of the Philippines to the pedestal was a pair of discoveries back in 2019, where a new human species Homo Luzonensis was discovered and the pioneering of the DNA Barcoding to help protect wildlife.
