Oceans are under threat, UN warns

UN: Oceans are under threat

According to a recent ocean envoy sent by the United Nations (UN), the world is facing serious trouble, as global warming is taking a toll on the worlds’ oceans.
Not only that, but the enormous amounts of pollution produced by humans are becoming unmanageable, and marine wildlife is suffering.
Peter Thomson, part of the ocean envoy, explained that the situation is more critical than governments and the public think, and there is an urgent need for action. According to Mr. Thomson, there are no simple solutions to this crisis, and humanity should act if we want to continue living on Earth.
The UN has been issuing warning reports and messages for years now; however, governments around the world are slow to react. According to Mr. Thomson, there is an urgent need for a global resolution.

Oceans are under threat, the Amazon is burning

A global ecological and climate crisis is taking over the world, and governments and not-for-profit organizations should adopt urgent measures.
The oceans are under threat, but this is not our only concern. The Amazon rainforest is burning, as well as vast areas near the Sahara desert.
Works are underway on a global ocean treaty, which is about to be announced in 2020, however, waiting until then might be a bit too late. According to the most recent reports, more than sixty-six percent (66%) of the world’s oceans are already profoundly affected by adverse human activities and global warming.
There have indeed been some efforts to reduce the effects of global warming. The fact that close to two hundred (200) countries decided to take part in the Paris agreements signed in 2015 is commendable. Unfortunately, this is not going to be enough as the world is already heating up with unprecedented speed.
