The National Association of Head Teachers warns private companies of using key worker privileges for self-benefit.
A detailed key workers list
In a statement from the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), it calls upon private companies for falsely incorporating their industry in helping fight off the COVID-19 outbreak. Companies that are of big help in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak can enlist their employees under the key workers’ list. Workers on the list are allowed to leave their children in designated schools in the UK, as they go through work, given that there is no one left at home to watch over the kids.
Most key workers are under the field of health, security officers, food distribution, and logistics. Unfortunately, some private companies are enrolling their industry under this list, which allows their workers to continue working for the profit of the company. The downside to this is that schools get crowded, and those who are really in need of the slots cannot be entertained anymore.
Having a safe place for their children to stay as they work is a big load off from these key workers. Now that schools are being crowded by children that weren’t supposed to be there, others are now having doubts about reporting to work for the sake of their children.
The General Secretary for NAHT, Paul Whiteman, is calling companies and workers not to take advantage of government privileges in favor of their benefits.
If you have someone to look over your children at home, please leave them there to make room for those who really need the slots.
Schools cannot be overcrowded
According to one of the school administrators from a primary school accomodating children of key workers,
The school is getting too crowded. This is inefficient and quite risky if this goes on.
The schools are functioning with lesser staff, and parents should not expect we can accommodate all of them, which is why we just want to limit the size of children coming here as minimal as possible.
Lower volume means better supervision and monitoring. To properly screen those who are eligible to have their children stay at schools, we make sure that parents understand that this option is a last resort. First and foremost, they should explain the importance of their jobs in the fight against the coronavirus.
We want to limit the slots to those parents with jobs that are critical in this COVID-19 outbreak.
