A newly developed Tencent AI for MOBA games was put into test and had an impressive winning percentage of 99.81%.

Tencent AI lab developed a new system for MOBA games

Tencent is known as the creator of China’s largest and most used messaging app, WeChat. It is probably the biggest tech-oriented company in all of China.
Tencent also joined the video game business, wherein it got the brand as the second-largest cloud platform in China. The company also include AI options in their games to challenge other users that prefer offline practising.
Last year, the International Go Federation was amazed by a Tencent AI built to play the Go game, it was named “Fine Art”. It played 34 games with a two-stone handicap against professional Go players but still won 30 out of the 34 games. Fine Art even defeated a human Go champion.
Contentment was never an option. Just recently, researchers from the Tencent AI lab came up with a system that can dominate a popular mobile game, Arena of Valor.
Arena of Valor – The game is also known as Honor of Kings, it is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. The game is in a multiplayer format, but Tencent AI can only be functional in a 1v1 game. Work is still in progress.

The Process

To come up with an effective model, researchers used four basic components:

  • AI Server – This system covers the logic interaction between the game and the AI model. It generates multiple scenarios to prepare for the next possible move
  • Dispatch Module – The part where data samples from AI Servers are being collected for processing.
  • Memory Pool – This is the storage pool for repetitive actions to be implemented by the AI during certain scenarios.
  • Reinforcement Learning (RL) Learner – This is a distributed training environment. Multiple RL learners are being used to fetch data simultaneously from Memory Pools to form large batch sizes of information.

The Results

During the implementation of the AI system against human players, the AI model gained five kills per game and got killed by just a spec over one instance on the average.
In over 2,100 matches, the AI model only lost four times, having an impressive winning percentage of 99.81%. The system was also applicable to different types of heroes available in-game. AI systems have been proven to be superior in dealing with objective-based scenarios.

What is MOBA?

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), also known as action real-time strategy (ARTS), is a subgenre of strategy video games that originated as a subgenre of real-time strategy in which each player controls a single character, usually on a map in an isometric perspective, as part of a team competing against another. Spawned from early forums from the custom map for Starcraft called {Aeon of Strife} and nd Evolved into the most recent Defense of the Ancients or “DotA”.
The objective of the MOBA Genre is for each team to destroy the opponents’ Base, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called “creeps”. As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.

What’s the future for a gamer?

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), also known as lords management (LOMA) or action real-time strategy (ARTS), is a sub-genre of the real-time strategy (RTS) genre, in which often two teams of players compete with each other in discrete games, with each player controlling a single character through an RTS-style.
Video games should be considered a sport. Rooted in competition, involving athletic ability, requiring practice and physical activity, taking place in stadiums, and cheered on by diehard fanatics, video games and the playing of them checks all of the required boxes.
Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports) is a form of sport competition using video games. Esports often take the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams.

Competitive video game playing, also known as esports, is now a high school varsity sport in US eight states, beginning with Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island in the fall of 2018. A few months later, the National Federation of State High School Associations said Alabama, Mississippi and Texas Charter schools have joined the mix.

Competitive video gaming debuted at the Southeast Asian Games, with 9 teams, led by gold-medal favorite Philippines, gunning for the top podium finish. The esports tournament, held from Dec. 5 to 10, will gather some of the region’s toughest and most accomplished gamers, who’re wildly popular among their online followers but may still relatively unknown to casual sports fans.
The top 100 pro gamers in the world make a lot of money. They don’t yet earn as much as the top 100 NBA or NFL players but their pay is growing all the time. Generally speaking, pro gamer money of $1.1 million a year goes to the best of the best. Top NBA players frequently earn an average of about $35 million a year.
