The success of the social welfare program
TSWREIS runs over 268 residential educational schools which consist of both boarding and day school educational facilities. This program provides free education to thousands of underprivileged students from the primary education level to undergraduate levels.
It has provided an opportunity for low-income families who had seen a spike in school dropout rates due to failure to pay school fees. Students who had previously dropped out are also being integrated into these schools.
The project is sponsored by the Telangana government which has been placed from both local press and internationally. It has gained popularity due to its efficiency and the impact it has had on the community resulting in multiple international universities choosing it as a study case for education social welfare service.
Improving quality further
The main purpose of the visit from Harvard University is to study how this project is interrupting the status quo of the education system in India. They will be studying its effectiveness and how the social welfare program is impacting the community.
Kumar showed appreciation when announcing the planned visit by saying that he was grateful that such a government-run school is attracting international attention. He also thanked the visitors and assured them that the projects are still a work in progress and more improvements are on the way. He is quoted as saying:
Our responsibility has increased by many folds now to retain and improve our quality further.
The visit will be a learning experience from both parties involved in this project. Harvard will learn about the success TSWREIS is having and the impact on its people, while the community will share with the students their different experiences between two different cultures.
