The president wants schools to reopen – science should not get in the way'

science should not get in the way

White House Press Secretary, in a press conference, said that science should not get in the way of school reopening. She also indicated that data had shown that coronavirus was less severe for children.
The push to reopen schools by the Trump administration has become a top priority in the past few weeks, with the President insisting that school must reopen in the fall.
Plans to reopen schools in the fall have already been laid out by the administration, with Betsy DeVos saying they are looking for in-person class attendance. The administration has also been vocal against online classes insisting that students and teachers should return in class.

Science should not get in the way, Press Secretary

Making the case on why schools should return in the fall has, however, been a difficult task for the administration, facing oppostion from their top scientists, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), teachers unions and politicians, who have described the move as unsafe for both the teachers and the students.
While articulating the reasons why schools should reopen, The White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, told reporters that science should not get in the way of reopening schools. She continued by emphasizing on why schools should reopen fully, with in-person learning, reiterating the President’s position on how school reopening should proceed.

Reopenings will be safe

She continued by saying that many medical experts were in support of fully reopening schools, citing studies that showed that coronavirus did not affect children severely, and was less lethal than the seasonal flu to children. McEnany continued by saying that science was on the side of the administration, and they were working hard to ensure that schools are reopened safely.
President Trump, in the last few weeks, has been vocal on the need to reopen schools fully. Trump has also cited countries in Europe that have safely reopened and indicated that he will give full support for schools that reopen. He has also threatened cutting federal funds to states, which schools do not reopen in the fall.
