Grades 8 and 9 will now be available next school year at Sun Peaks Canada as the School District 73 board announces the good news.

Good news from School District 73

On a meeting with the education board of trustees of School District 73, it was brought to attention that Sun Peaks Community Canada will soon receive additional two-level education in the form of Grade 8 and 9. The announcement was made last Monday.
For the upcoming school year 2020-21, Sun Peaks Community schools shall accommodate students for Grade 8 and 9, respectively. The locals are excited about the budget intended to improve the education system in their community.
According to School District 73 board chair, Kathleen Karpuk:

As an educator, we put high value in the classic way of learning, the student to teacher experience.

Slowly expanding

In a statement by Jenny Hawes, president of the Education Society in Sun Peaks, he was grateful to the decision made by the board to fund the education system in Sun Peaks.

I, as a part of the community of Sun Peaks feels the sincerity and concern that the board showed for us during the meeting. We are grateful for approving the funds intended in expanding the education system in our community.

With the addition of Grades 8 and 9 starting school year 2020-21, the number of students at Sun Peaks School is expected to at least 110. The current count is at 94. As a small community, having the students stay for an extra year or two to study is already impactful for the students and parents.
It started with 18 students, Mayor Al Raine of Sun Peaks recalls how the number of students started to grow and is now expected to reach 130 students.
With the inclusion of grades 8 and 9 at Sun Peaks school, the School District 73 board also wants to have a five-day school week for secondary education, though this change might still be worked out in dialogue during the next meeting of the board of trustees.
