Even with the COVID-19 being controlled in the Hubei Province, online education in China will still go on indefinitely.
Better equipment used for online education in China
It seems China was at least well prepared in addressing issues related to education when the COVID-19 outbreak hit the country. Months have passed since the coronavirus spread out from its epicenter, the Hubei Province. With the epidemic being close to totally under control in the area, students were expecting that physical classes are about to resume.
However, despite the continuous disinfection of public establishments, the Education Ministry is still not risking the health of students by discontinuing online education in China. Instead, they have equipped the teachers with more advanced tools in conducting classes for their students.
The ranked fourth high school in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, hasn’t resumed physical classes yet, but instead, installed smart screens and other paraphernalia to help their teachers reach out to their students more effectively.
Live lessons are better than replayed videos
Online education in China has been continuously improving day by day during the extent of the lockdown from the COVID-19 outbreak. One teacher applauded how his school provided for more advanced equipment that helps them utilize their teaching hours with the students.
The initial method for implementing online education in China was to provide resource materials such as recorded lessons, tutoring applications, and reading materials to the students according to their grade levels.
Gradually, teachers felt that this method left them a bit disconnected with their students since there was no interaction at all. Thus, the live broadcast of lessons was introduced. Here, all the students simultaneously get into class as the teacher enters the system. The teacher discusses in an empty classroom at school, but they feel as if their students are still in the room since the classes are conducted in realtime. Any questions and clarifications by a student can be raised at any time during the lecture, just like in a normal physical classroom setting.
Many teachers support this kind of approach to distance learning since it gives them the feeling of still performing in front of a real class, even without seeing the students physically in the classroom. The experience is way different than recording yourself in front of the computer, discussing lessons that who knows if someone is out there is actually listening to it.
