New world-class schools to be built in Perth after government funding

Two brand new world-class schools have received funding from the Scottish funding and will replace closed down schools in Perth.

The world-class schools’ funding announcement was made by education secretary and Perthshire North MSP John Swinney, who indicated that a new Perth High School and North Perth Primary School would be built. Swinney indicated that the funding was coming from phase two of the £1 billion Learning Estate Investment Plan (LEIP).

The new high school cost was estimated at £58.5 million, and the primary school would cost approximately £16.5 million. These new schools will serve as replacements for Balhousie Primary and North Muitron Primary.

The new schools are expected to be opened in2024 for the high school and 2023 for the primary school. Mr. Swinney commended the Scottish government for ensuring that kids receive a quality education in up to date facilities.

Swinney also expressed happiness that Perth and Kinross council was receiving huge funding to help in the development of infrastructure, including the ‘world-class’ schools in the region.

Swinney continued by saying that Perth families were justifiably delighted by the news of new schools in their region. He highlighted that these families understood the huge impact such an investment would have in the community and the children’s ability to have brighter futures due to quality education in the region.

Swinney also said that the investment in the community was further proof of the Scottish government’s commitment to education in Perthshire and beyond and its focus on giving these students a chance to succeed in life. He continued by saying that he looked forward to working with all stakeholders who would participate in the project and expressed optimism that he would see the project to fruition.

MSP for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire Roseanna Cunningham also commended the Scottish government for their effort in Perthshire and indicated that the new schools would significantly impact young people in the region.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Liz Smith MSP added also commended the effort by the government and indicated that investment was welcome as it would provide state of the art learning facilities in the region that would be built with an emphasis on the environment.
