In the upcoming few days, work will start on the construction of the new special needs school part of the Auchenharvie Academy campus in Stevenston. The construction project will become a reality, thanks to an investment of more than twenty million pounds (GBP 27 million).
The building will be able to accomodate more than two hundred pupils with special learning needs. The expected completion date for the whole project is set in 2020, and the facility will house several next-generation rooms for different activities, aimed at helping the educational process.
The new school will have a specialized hydrotherapy pool, rooms designed to facilitate soft play and an interactive outdoor learning area. This development will aim to provide a wholesome environment for students so that they can get the best possible education while also having a place to make social connections.
Special needs education in the UK
In recent years, more attention is dedicated to developing excellent facilities and practices, which aim to provide children with special learning needs with the right environment for their educational development. Across the United Kingdom, several campaigns which aim to raise awareness of special education issues have gained popularity.
Developing the necessary facilities for special education is imperative, as children with learning disabilities require a different environment to achieve their educational goals. The new school in Stevenston is an excellent example of a well-designed facility, which takes into account the needs of children. The new campus will incorporate areas which are scientifically proven to boost engagement rates and success among learners with special needs or disabilities.
