Higher education in Moldova is progressively betting on vocational training, and the government has recently confirmed that more than one thousand (1300) students will be admitted in dual programs during the next school year.
According to a recent announcement by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Sergiu Harea, the students will be able to join dual programs which place a focus on vocational training.
A large number of open positions was announced, as more than ninety (95) companies have declared interest in hiring students to help them with their vocational education. Dual program enrolment starts in September this year, and students from both high schools and universities can take part.
Vocational education in Moldova and around the world
Professional training in Moldova has been in steady development over the past few years. According to government statistics, in 2014, there was only one company taking an active part in the dual training program. In contrast, for the upcoming school year, thirty times more companies have announced available positions for vocational training.
Many countries around the world are beginning to recognize the importance of vocational education, as whole industries suffer from a lack of skilled workers. Some examples include Germany and China, who recently signed a joint agreement, outlining the plans of the two countries to collaborate on providing vocational training to exchange students.
Another example of a country where vocational education is recognized as an essential factor is Bosnia and Herzegovina. For the country to be prosperous in its application for joining the European Union, the government was advised to focus on developing vocational education programs.
