Google’s Meet video conferencing tool adds Gmail links and Zoom-like layouts to be competitive

Google’s Meet video conferencing tool adds Gmail links and Zoom-like layouts to be competitive

New features in Google’s Meet video conferencing platform such as Gmail link video calls and grid layout video calls will help it become competitive. This is after the video conferencing platform’s demand surged due to lockdowns that required workers to work remotely.
Demand for video conferencing platform has been on the rise since the start of the coronavirus pandemic that has seen jobs closed and governments instituting countrywide lockdowns. This has pushed these companies to come up with creative ways to continue working from home. This has driven the usage of video conferencing applications such as Zoom and Skype.

Meet video conferencing platform’s new features

Google’s Meet video conferencing tool has also seen a rise in the number of users in the past few months. Data shows that the application has had the highest rise in the number of users compared to all other Google products. The platform, which is used by businesses, schools and governments, is built differently than the Google hangout which is publicly available for everyone.
Zoom’s recent security scares and the surge in usage of Video conferencing platforms has led to Google releasing features ahead of schedule. Among these features is the ability to receive a Google Meet video conferencing call while using Gmail.
The feature has integrated Gmail with Meet video conferencing to allow its users to have more control over the application. The integration is also meant to increase the number of users and enable their customers to easily access the application through the Gmail platform.
Google has also added a Zoom-like layout in its Meet video conferencing platform to allow connection with more than 16 call displays during a video call. It will also increase the video quality in its application by filtering the background noise such as keyboard noise.
The improvement in Google’s Meet video conferencing tool will help it compete with other applications such as Zoom, Microsoft and Cisco services which are also in the video conferencing business.
