Korean students protests president’s appointment

This appointment is being seen by students and the Korean populace as a way of undermining the progress they have made in the judicial system.
Calls for cancellation of appointment of a justice minister has been getting louder each day. Candlelight vigils have become rampant from both the opposition party Liberty Korea Party (LKP) and the students demanding for the appointment to be rescinded.
President Moon Jae-in’s appointment of his embattled aide Cho Kuk as justice minister motivated the coming together of students and alumni of the most prestigious South Korea universities.
The controversy surrounding Cho started when he was accused of helping his daughter to get into Korea University. Him and his professor wife are believed to have conspired to ensure that their daughter could build a portfolio. Her daughter would, later on, use the fake portfolio that was acquired by the help of their parents to get into the university.

Tripartite union of universities

A group of around 200 students had already gathered in Korea University calling for the resignation of Cho. For the first time, Korea University, Yonsei University, and Seoul National University have come together with a single message of unity calling for his resignation since the protest began.
They are also calling for their daughters dismissal into university citing irregularities. According to her admission report, she cited a project she had done in 2008, that is believed to have been aided by her parents. It is believed that this citation sealed the decision to admit her into school.
Polls done have shown that a lot of Koreans feel the same way as these students for the appointment of Cho. The poll from 504 adults showed that 55.5 disagreed with the appointment with only 35.3 willing to say that they support the appointment.
This appointment is being seen by students and the Korean populace as a way of undermining the progress they have made in the judicial system. LKP has been very vocal and it has stated that it will continue in its opposition with the appointment as it tries to uphold the constitution and the morality of the country.
