Khan Academy gains 218,000 student subscribers

Khan Academy services.

Khan Academy builds new tools for the school district in addition to the already existing free content. About two hundred and eighteen thousand (218,000) student subscribers from three (3) states will be paying $10 to $12.50 to access Khan Academy paid resources.
The nonprofit academic organization, Khan Academy, which had given free online video tutorials to teachers and students alike will now be offering an additional educational service for a fee. However, Khan Academy will not restrict access to any of its core content and exercise; it will always remain free and accessible to both teachers and students.
Teachers make use of the free test preparation resources to assess students performance across diverse subject areas.
Khan Academy had never revealed their success strategies, especially with the milestone it achieved on the California state math assessment.
A correlation study of the new Khan Academy program mentioned that the Academy resources were not behind the students’ success in the California state math assessment. The correlation also took into account the students ethnicity, family, race, and income levels.

Khan Academy pilot projects

The new program called the Khan Academy Districts launched two years after it started a pilot program with California’s Long Beach Unified School District.
Also, this year, Khan Academy launched a pilot program with the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). The pilot project called MAP Accelerator uses assessment results to help teachers guide students’ personalized learning.
Personalized learning resources like the one provided by Khan Academy, is attractive in the education sector, as reported by NPR. Nevertheless, few research studies have been directed to assess the effectiveness of personalized digital learning. An article in NEA Today publication also hold the same view about personalized learning.
Following with this skeptical thought about digitized learning and the cost implications, an expert in the field suggested that Khan Academy be scrutinized. The experts made this suggestion because schools will be paying for Khan Academy services. The assessment will determine the tools being used by the Khan Academy and evaluate the academic performances the resources could have on students.
