Junk food causes blindness and deafness for UK teenager

Junk food causes blindness and deafness for UK teenager

According to recent reports, a teenager in the United Kingdom (UK) is the first recorded case of severe health impairments (blindness and deafness) caused by the extreme consumption of junk food.
The seventeen-years-old British student admits his diet for the past ten years revolved predominantly around fish and chips take away, and processed meat.
According to his doctors, the teenager developed a  nutritional optic neuropathy (NON), which was caused by the severe lack of vitamins and nutrients in his daily food intake.
Specialists say that this kind of condition is often witnessed with children living in poor areas, and suffering severe malnourishment. What is more worrying, however, is the fact that this Bristol teenager got himself to the point of blindness and deafness, while eating sufficient amounts of food every day. Unfortunately, the type of food he liked and ate was not healthy even in the slightest, as it was predominantly junk food and processed meat.

Junk food – a danger to students everywhere

In our modern-day society, access to junk food is fast and easy, which often makes it a more preferred choice than cooking something.
Nowadays, junk food delivery is possible even with the help of robotic assistants, which makes it better available and considerably cheaper than a spree at the market, for quality ingredients and products.
Unfortunately, as seen with the teenager from Bristol, an eating regime revolving solely around fast food is very detrimental to a young person’s health.
In order to avoid such extreme cases of sight and hearing loss, schools all around the world should work towards promoting a healthy lifestyle, including lessons on the consequences of eating predominantly junk food. While school-provided food has to adhere to certain health regulations, no one can force children to eat at their schools. This is why a serious shift in the way food is spoken about in educational institutions should entail.
