Hiroshima University has partnered with one of the largest shipping companies in Japan, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), to develop artificial intelligence (AI) applications for the whole industry.
The idea behind this project is to launch a substantial research campaign, which will successfully identify the viable use cases of AI in shipping and maritime business.

Hiroshima University is one of the leading higher education institutions in Japan, and K Line has entrusted a large part of their ambitious goals on the team of scientists there.
The goal of the AI specialist in the university will be to collaborate and exchange experience and ideas with industry leaders, to come up with solutions for some of the persistent problems in the shipping industry.
Of course, one of the main aspects of this research project will be to identify how the capabilities of artificial intelligence can be applied to the large quantities of data shipping companies have to process and record.

Aside from Hiroshima University, the joint project and K Line have attracted a number of other institutions and enterprises to join the research effort.
The National Institute of Maritime and the Marubeni Corporation are just a few of the big names which have decided to take part in the research. With the help of such prominent figures in the industry and science experts from Hiroshima University, K Line is looking to revolutionize the shipping sector.
