Higher education in Goa: Females outperform males in class

higher education in goa

A growing concern in higher education in Goa as female students tend to outrank male students academically.

The situation of higher education in Goa

During Goa University’s (GU) 32nd annual convocation, almost 11,000 students received their degrees. The interesting part is that 55 percent of the students were women, and out of the 15 medals endorsed for students with outstanding academic performances, only a single male was part of it. Vice-Chancellor of GU, Varun Sahni, confirmed the following details.
In a statement by the Governor of Goa, Satya Pal Malik:

I deeply congratulate the medal awardees of this year’s convocation. It delights me to see 14 out of the 15 awardees to be female, I admire their perseverance and academic improvement. But it also saddens me that the boys have been left out and shadowed by these ladies.

The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of GU, expressed his disappointment in how poorly male students performed academically. He encourages the university’s male population to take inspiration from the girls and try to push their luck next year.

I hope boys will do their best next year and earn more than one medal for the boys.

Women empowerment

Disappointment from the low turnout rate of academically excellent males at the higher education in Goa doesn’t mean the university thinks less of the women. Vice-chancellor Sahni is more than pleased to have a rare statistical accomplishment in women awardees in a convocation.
According to India’s Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu, who addressed the event at the higher education in Goa, and a familiar face in convocations all around India:

This has become the trend today. Most of the university convocation I have attended to have 65 percent to 70 percent women medal and honor awardees.

These kinds of statistics are encouraging empowerment in women across India. With a country whose population consisting of almost 50 percent women, they should be given more encouragement to be effective elements of society. VP Naidu believes that it is about time that women should be back in the forefront of society. This is the true Indian tradition.
