GMRC bill signed into law

GMRC bill

Philippine President Duterte approves the GMRC bill.

GMRC bill approved

The Palace announced President Duterte’s approval into law of the GMRC bill. It incorporates the subject Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) into the K-12 program.
The bill will now be known as the GMRC and Values Education Act (RA 11476), was principally authored in the Senate by Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri.
RA 11476 replaces the prevailing Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao curriculum by the Education Department. The new curriculum will be implemented at all levels.
Kindergarten students will be taught good conduct by incorporating with the daily school activities. Good conduct is a basic tool that students at kindergarten should be exposed to. At the elementary level, GMRC will be a sole subject, this goes for Grades one to six. At the secondary level, the GMRC subject will be replaced by Values Education.
The Senator asks the DepEd to hopefully incorporate the curriculum change as part of the new normal as schools reopen in August.

As distance learning be the primary mode of delivering education for the upcoming school year, it will be important that we incorporate GMRC and Values education to provide more guidance to our students.

Other ways for distance learning

The Department of Education is still finding other alternatives for distance learning, especially for poor families with no access to the internet and electronic gadgets. The agency is also considering additional factors such as, the capacity of parents to guide their children during homeschooling.
The agency received several scenarios on how distance learning may fail and they are already looking into possible alternatives for these scenarios. Aside from the lack of capacity to access online learning, printed out learning modules might still be a problem since not all parents have the time and patience to discuss class lessons to their children.
