Class suspension in Hong Kong
Hong Kong was among the first worldwide to acknowledge the threat of the COVID-19 outbreak and issued an immediate lockdown on the country. As early as January, schools in Hong Kong were closed, and students were directed to take distance learning to complete their respective grade levels.
Hong Kong wasn’t new with such a pandemic. The government already learned how to use precautionary measures, learning from what happened during the SARS outbreak in 2003.
The country was not perfect in handling the situation but remained impressive in handling the COVID-19 situation. Despite being closer to the epicenter of the epidemic, Hong Kong only has around 1000 total cases and only four deaths in total.
The Hong Kong health ministry made sure that students taking the final exams for their diploma are safe from the transmission of the virus inside the testing area. Outside of the testing centers, the government expects that students and parents are well aware of the proper guidelines on social distancing and proper hygiene.
