Esso, one of the leading petrol providers in the world, has decided to support the Thailand Equitable Education Fund (EEF) by granting more than fifty thousand dollars ($50 000) to the initiative.
According to Manoch Munjitjuntra, who is the company retail manager for the Thailand region, the grant will be divided among more than five hundred individual cases, each getting more than three thousand Thai bahts (฿3,000).
Students from eighteen schools will benefit from these funds. The idea behind EEF is to provide financial support for students who are likely to drop out of school because of their socio-economic environment.
When announcing the grant, Mr. Munjitjuntra said that this grant is one of the continuous efforts of the company to help education in Thailand over the past nine years.
What is the Equitable Education Fund?
The Equitable Education Fund is a government initiative, which was adopted in 2018, with the introduction of the Equitable Education Act.
The idea behind the fund is to provide support for pupils who are in need and cannot continue with their education otherwise. EEF has traditionally partnered with big businesses in Thailand to secure the funding necessary to help students from deprived areas or low-income families.
The government in Thailand has been actively looking into ways to boost the educational system in the country. In a recent speech, the Minister of Education advised universities in Thailand to turn their attention to technological development. The EEF is another significant initiative on the government’s part, which aims to make business and officials to work together, towards helping students.
