Dorms are dumps, but the architecture is fine in Princeton

The desperate need to renovate student dorms and access to basic facilities

Maintenance problems of bathrooms and inaccessible basic facilities of the student dorms at Princeton University sorely needed attention.
The concerns rise especially in the case of Wilson College and some parts of Rockefeller College. Students have turned to Facebook confession pages with their complaints, calling the hall a ‘dump’ with a lack of access to basic facilities like a kitchen, laundry and study space. The furniture has been in awful condition for a long time with no maintenance whatsoever.
Princeton University is one of the top Ivy League research university based in New Jersey. Princeton has been famous for its wonderful work of architectural buildings, the campus, and the student residence.
The bathrooms and time to time maintenance are very necessary so that students can live pleasantly in the campus. Winter is approaching, Canada and some states of the US are already expected to see some snow by the end of the week. In such conditions, it would be unfortunate that students have to get up for their laundry far from their nearest available facilities.

Inadequate facilities and dorm room ‘slums’

A lottery system was devised by Princeton so that there’s no discrimination between the living conditions of students based on their economic or financial backgrounds. But looking at the present conditions of the various halls across the campus, it seems that the inequality has been there all along, with some students in worse conditions than others.
Upper-class students have called their dorms ‘slums’, which itself speaks a lot about the disapproval of the dorm room facilities. Rather than living in their rooms, students prefer to stay away from them.
It is not that the University isn’t into renovating, as lecture halls are being renovated this summer too. Some of the lecture halls are perfect with luxurious amenities. Students just long for suitable and livable conditions in their dorm rooms. The quality of life has to be maintained especially when Princeton claims that they will provide students a home away from their home.
