DepEd: No graduation ceremonies, while extended enhanced community quarantine is in effect.
Graduation ceremonies will not be allowed amid extended ECQ
With the implementation of the extended enhanced community quarantine in Luzon on April 7, all mass gatherings are still not allowed. In line with the government’s extended quarantine protocol, school activities such as recognition and graduation ceremonies are being called off.
Leonor Briones of the Department of Education informed the public about the decision of disallowing schools to conduct any mass gathering, such as graduation ceremonies. The order was as instructed by the Inter-Agency Task Force in charge of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The restriction is not limited to Luzon, who is under the extended ECQ, it applies to every region nationwide, following individual community quarantines implemented in their areas.
Briones pointed out that graduation ceremonies are not that important when it comes to the risk of exposure to coronavirus. The department is also considering the possibility of moving the school calendar as the problem of the coronavirus outbreak is still unpredictable.
When the COVID-19 outbreak hit the Philippines, the Department of Education was quick to issue the suspension of classes, teacher conferences/seminars, and school activities that involve the mass gathering of people. This is in line with the call of the government for its citizens to stay at home to flatten the curve of coronavirus cases in the country.
As of posting, the DOH COVID-19 case tracker shows 106 new cases bringing up a total of 3870 confirmed cases, 12 new recoveries summing up to 96 in total, and five new deaths coming up with a total of 182 total deaths nationwide.
