The Democratic Coalition in Hungary, which is currently in opposition with the governing party, has called for increased funding for the educational system.
According to the opposition, Fidesz, the governing party, has been claiming to make significant changes in the budgeting for health and education; however, there are no visible results of these changes.
In response to these accusations, a spokesperson for Fidesz has claimed that in recent years Hungary has been forcefully withdrawn in debt and funding is not enough for many families, children, and for healthcare and education.
The Fidesz representative also added that for this budgetary year, the government had allocated more money for all these sectors, including about six hundred and forty-five billion forints (HUF645bn) more for the educational system.
Democratic education budgets for the future
Education is often left behind when it comes to budgeting because there are always more urgent needs across the government. Countries like the United Kingdom are also struggling to dedicate enough funds to education in recent years.
Despite that, the educational system is one of the cornerstones which make the future generations capable and intelligent. Considering this, education should be one of the priorities of all forward-thinking governments across the globe.
The Fidesz party is currently in disagreement with the European Union on several significant points, and democratic governance is not on the party’s list of priorities, which results in escalations between the government and the opposition. Even in this scenario, however, education should not be left behind, as the system requires sufficient funding to provide quality education.
