CUNY’s affordability has been an essential factor in instigating more freshman enrollment. The City University of New York or CUNY has recorded this trend despite a decline in the nationwide enrollment.
Since 2010, CUNY’s affordability has been instrumental in elevating freshman enrollment by 17%. This fall, both community and senior colleges have witnessed constant growth in freshman classes by 345 and 763 admissions, respectively.

CUNY’s affordability linked to value proposition

According to CUNY’s chancellor, Felix V. Matos Rodriguez, the value proposition has been pivotal in prompting increased freshman enrollments. In a word, it’s not only CUNY’s affordability but the motivation behind the accommodation.
He also noted that the Excelsior Program for the growth has been helpful in the realization of more enrollments.
CUNY’s affordability can also be explained by the actuality that the average student debt linked to its graduates is substantially lower compared to the national average. It’s affordability PLUS high quality,

With more than one million alumni of 25 colleges, CUNY grads are making their mark from coast to coast and around the world. From Nobel Laureates to award-winning educators and leaders in public service, medicine, business and other fields, alumni are a valuable resource for your future.

Matos Rodriguez noted that the system adopted offered high-quality education and this positively impacted learner.

CUNY’s affordability elevated by the Excelsior Program

The Excelsior Program entails a scholarship platform intended at making college tuition-free for eligible students.
Matos Rodriguez stipulated that Excelsior was incredible in prompting value proposition in CUNY and SUNY (State University of New York) powerfully. Cuny’s affordability has set an example for all the schools.
He also acknowledged that nearly 24,000 CUNY and SUNY students benefited from the scholarship in its second year.
Experts have also proclaimed that CUNY’s location has played a pivotal role in its incredible growth.
According to Robert Kelchen, an associate professor at Seton Hall University, young people have shown the tendency to migrate from rural to urban areas. As a result, colleges located in urban areas perform better compared to those in rural ones.

CUNY has, therefore, been a beneficiary of this trend, as well as the huge number of immigrants moving to New York City.  Add to that, CUNY’s well-engineered marketing campaign is bearing good fruits.
On the other hand, it has been stipulated that Online Program Managers (OPMs) have been thwarting college affordability.
OPMs are companies that are usually hired for the connection they make between universities and clients seeking graduate degrees.
