Started last December at Wuhan, China, here is the most recent Coronavirus update available.

An unexpected disease

The first case of the Novel Coronavirus broke out in Wuhan, China, last December. As of now, the number of infected individuals reached 24,000, with at least 490 people dead. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the disease as an international outbreak.
Citizens worldwide are all tuning in to every bit of Coronavirus update available from the WHO.
According to China’s National Health Commission, the virus is confirmed to be transmittable from human to human via “droplet contact transmission.” A droplet transmission occurs when a bacteria travel via respiratory droplets in people such as coughing, dripping, exhaling, and sneezing.

Coronavirus update on cases outside China

The deadly coronavirus is not limited to China alone, and it has started to spread outside of China due to international travels of people coming from the infected areas. As of today, there 230 confirmed cases internationally in more than 25 different countries. Two deaths were also recorded, a 44-year-old male Chinese who went to the Philippines, and a 39-year-old male in Hong Kong.

  • Thailand (at least 25 tested positive)
    • A Thai national couple which traveled from Japan
    • Two Thai hired car drivers for Chinese passengers
  • Singapore (at least 24 tested positive)
    • Health ministry issued a travel ban to the Hubei province
  • Japan (at least 23 tested positive)
    • An additional of at least ten people from a cruise ship docked in Yokohama bay have tested positive of the virus
    • Two people tested positive in Japan have no travel history to China. One of which is a bus driver for a tour group coming from Wuhan. The first suspected case of human transmission
  • South Korea ( at least 18 tested positive)
    • One of the tested positive came from a conference in Singapore where another infected Malaysian also attended
  • Philippines ( at least three tested positive with one death)
    • The country is known to be a favorite destination of Chinese nationals for business and pleasure.
    • Recorded the first death due to coronavirus outside of China, a 44-year-old male Chinese who was traveling with his wife in different countries before arriving in the Philippines
  • Hong Kong (at least 18 tested positive with one death)
    • Hong Kong is along the border of China, which makes it a prone area for transmission, but, as of now, there is only one death case due to the coronavirus. The victim is a 39-year-old male who rode a high-speed train to Wuhan on January 21.
  • Macau ( at least ten tested positive)
    • After the coronavirus update on the area, government officials opted to shut down all casino operations for at least two weeks to contain the spread of the virus
  • Malaysia ( at least ten tested positive)
  • Australia ( at least 13 tested positive)
  • Germany ( at least 12 cases)
  • Taiwan ( at least 11 tested positive)
  • The United States ( at least 11 tested positive)
