Climate activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, alongside 20 indigenous activists is suing the United States federal government over climate inaction.
He is a youth climate activist, music artist and Earth Guardians youth director, who is currently calling on his generation to take the necessary steps to create progress in the ongoing issue of climate change.
Martinez, who has reportedly been campaigning against climate change since he was six-years-old, says now is the best time for every indigenous people to raise their voices in support of creating climate change awareness.
According to the climate activist, every part of the crisis is directly linked to social justice, racial justice, human rights violations, and supporting climate change would invariably help tackle other social issues.
He stated the reason that climate activism has failed to push enough to create significant change is that the way stories have been told has failed to inspire the world.
He urged other indigenous climate activists that more than ever now is the time for recognition of the need of indigenous communities voices at the forefront of the protest.
Martinez also noted that indigenous communities had carried the knowledge and wisdom of how to live in balance with nature for generations.
He urged every individual not to acknowledge the issue at hand or claim to be victims but also be a severe part of the conversation.
Martinez and his climate activists are tasking world leaders to build the future they know is possible and believe in achieving this better job of ensuring that representation is necessary.
The climate activist was also involved in another lawsuit against the fracking industry in Colorado but lost the case. However, he claims he remains positive that “people power” can overcome big money/corporation.
