70 Cambodian students granted scholarships in Australia and New Zealand

Over 70 Cambodia students have been granted for full scholarships to study various Master’s degree courses in Australia and New Zealand in 2020 after passing exams to qualify for this opportunity.
Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn congratulated them on their accomplishments and admonished them to be good ambassadors of the state. He noted further that they need to study hard and acquire knowledge to develop and serve their people and country.
Sokhonn gave this advice on Wednesday when applicants who had successfully qualified for Master’s Degrees paid him a courtesy visit.
He tasked them to learn about the cultures of the countries they are going to and advised them to study hard and gain the necessary skills to serve Cambodia when they return.
The Foreign affairs minister also reminded them that they will be representatives of Cambodia in their host those countries and urged them to disseminate positive information about the Kingdom’s culture, customs, and people.
He added that they should promote Cambodia’s knowledge, religion such as the Angkor Wat temple and encourage people to see the kingdom as other tourism destinations.

Students to travel in batches

Also present at the meeting was Koy Kuong, an aide to the minister, who explained that the students would be leaving for Australia and New Zealand in two batches.
The first batch will comprise of 21students going to Australia and 16 students to New Zealand in January 2020.  The second batch will consist of 23 students leaving for Australia and 16 students for New Zealand in June 2020.
Kuong further informed the minister that so far almost 100 percent of Cambodians who have gone to study in Australia and New Zealand have completed their courses, and graduated with flying colors.
Stating that since 1994, Australia has provided 853 Cambodian students with full scholarships while New Zealand has given out 285 full scholarships since 2005.
A student representative thanked Mr. Sokhonn for creating time to meet them and offering them good advice. Adding that they would take the advice and do everything in their power to enhance the image of their mother country.

New Zealand a desirable destination for Cambodian students

New Zealand is becoming a more desirable destination for Cambodian students to study abroad, because of various scholarship opportunities made available for students.
Kin Phea, Director-general of the International Relations Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia, said cooperation between Cambodia and Australia in the education sector is generally good. This has further fostered the desire of indigenes to study abroad.
Vantak Chheang, Student Placement Manager, also explained that the fact students have the opportunity to work part-time while studying makes New Zealand a great country for students to continue their academic journey.
