The origins of the coronavirus have become a hotly discussed topic since the pandemic began last year in China. Most of the countries in the world are in consensus that the virus originated from the Wuhan wet markets, and jumped from animal-believed to be bats- to humans.
However, a scientist who claims that she escaped the country in fear of her life, and who was among the first scientists to work in Wuhan, directly with coronavirus patients, claims that the virus may have been made in a lab. A former virologist at Hong Kong’s School of Public Health indicated that she has all the proof required to ascertain the actual origins of the virus, which she said was in the virology institute in Wuhan, China.
Coronavirus origins
Dr. Li Meng-Yan fled China to the USA in April, after she became aware of plots that were being hatched to silence whistleblowers. In an interview with the Sun, she indicated that she was in the process of releasing the evidence that would lay everything bare on how the Chinese government created the virus and released it.
She also made assurances that the document that will be released will be available for everyone. She indicated that failure to have biological expertise will not hinder anyone from understanding the evidence, as she had simplified the information as much as she could.
Threats from the Chinese government
Dr. Li recounted her efforts to warn the Chinese government that the coronavirus cases were rising exponentially in Wuhan were futile. She continued by saying that after she made these statements, officials warned her to keep silent and be careful.
She indicated that after she was threatened, she turned to her supervisor who had hired her to work in Wuhan who warned her to stop her line of questioning or they would be ‘disappeared’.
The Dr.’s claim is expected to evoke controversy, considering many scientific communities believe the origins of the virus to have come from the wet markets. However, the US has in recent times been skeptical of the origins of coronavirus, with the Trump administration having considered opening an inquiry to investigate if the virus was made in a lab, just a few months ago.
