The DepEd is fingers crossed that the agency will receive additional funding from the Bayanihan to Recover as One-Act.
Bayanihan to Recover as One-Act ratified in the Senate
The Bayanihan to Recover as One-Act or Bayanihan 2 is the second wave of government funding intended as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget is expected to reach around P165.5 billion pesos, which is already ratified in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The final step now is the signing of the President to make the act final and executable.
Implementation and distribution of the budget once approved will be more scrutinous than ever. With current issues of questionable disbursement of government funds, notably from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), lawmakers will be keeping a keen eye on the flow of the budget from here on out.
A lot of government agencies are looking forward to the implementation of the Bayanihan to Recover as One-Act, one of which is the Department of Education, who is eyeing to use needed funds in their plan to hire displaced private school teachers to be part of the extended workforce of the department for the upcoming opening of the blended learning program.
Hiring displace private school teachers
The DepEd acknowledges the need for the additional workforce to help facilitate in the launching and operations for the blended learning program. With several private schools having to shut down indefinitely due to low enrollee count, the department sought after displaced private school teachers to take part in the extended workforce needed for the upcoming school year.
Hopefully, with the approval of Bayanihan 2, a part of the budget will be redirected to DepEd’s hiring program. The department has already tapped resources from partnerships with local government units in boosting the funds to hire displaced private school teachers.
