Unschooling children: Thoughts from a social influencer mom

unschooling children

A mom of two shares on social media her positive experience about unschooling children.

How do unschooling children work?

Unschooling is a natural way of allowing children to be curious and explore things that will gain knowledge. Unlike traditional schooling which based on pursuing knowledge, the process of unschooling children is free form.
Even though there are still rules, unschooling does not force knowledge into children. They are given the freedom to explore their interest and learn to adapt on their own.
According to Trix Clasara, a social media mom, the unschooling experience she had with her husband helped them improve their creativeness and innovativeness as parents in guiding their children.
Allowing their children to play outdoors promotes self-exploration and subjective curiosity. Dishing out the gadgets and introducing interactive toys such as blocks and connecting pipes will help children be more creative and promotes critical thinking.

Every child has different strengths

According to Clasara, unlike traditional schooling where it is assumed that all children have the same knowledge and their performance is defined by their interest to study, in unschooling children, they are bound to explore their own field of interest.
As an example, her 5-year-old daughter learned to write by letting her use a pen to her delight and draw endlessly. As weeks passed, she slowly learned how to use the pen the right way. Drawing lines and circles can be seen as a way of practicing strokes needed to write letters.
As for learning how to read, she started by reading short poems and stories to her children. She made sure that the stories were interesting and promote an imaginative experience. What followed was that due to curiosity, her children asked on their own to be taught how to read.

Unschooling is the most natural way for children to learn and discover things on their own, with no pressure and deadlines similar to traditional schooling.
