To help minor institutions, six major PH colleges are offering free training for teachers on adaptable learning.

Free training for teachers

Six major education institutions in the PH has offered free training for teachers in line with the adaptable learning program for Academic Year 2020-2021. Commission on Higher Education Secretary Prospero de Vera III, announced the voluntary offer of six of PH’s major universities, to train teachers from minor universities in the handling of adaptable learning this coming school year.
The volunteering institutions are as follows:

  1. Central Luzon State University
  2. De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde
  3. Far Eastern University
  4. Manuel S. Enverga University
  5. Philippine Normal University
  6. Tarlac Agricultural University

These colleges and universities have already successfully trained their teachers and are willing to impart the same training to interested teachers from smaller universities.
Free training for teachers  will include the following:

  • Construction of learning modules
  • Using technology to aid in distance learning
  • Familiarization to tools used for distance learning
  • Adapting to blended learning

Interested applicants may book their slots via the respective institutions.

Possibility of physical classes

According to De Vera, the government is still strict with the policy of no face-to-face classes until ordered by the Palace. Though, CHED is appealing to allow physical classes for a limited number of students in areas under MGCQ or lower.
Despite the warning of researchers from the University of the Philippines, that if physical classes are set to resume, a huge spike of COVID-19 cases is expected to happen.
The good gesture of big universities to help train teachers from smaller universities is a huge help in the campaign for adaptive learning in the  Philippines. With limited resources to cater to more than 2000 state and private universities, volunteer work such as this goes a long way to help each other out.
