School reopening on August 24 must push through according to the Department of Education Secretary.
Nothings gonna stop the school reopening
In an online press conference conducted by the Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones, she reiterated that August 24 is still the expected date for school reopening in the country amid the COVID-19 threat.
We must understand that education must continue. This is the reason we are working double time to make the school reopening on August work for the students and teachers alike.
The announcement of the secretary about the pushing through of the school year 2020-2021 starting August 24 drew various opinions from parents across the country. Some agree that stalling the opening of classes will cause a deterioration in the country’s education system, while the majority are afraid due to the threat of COVID-19.
Earlier this week, the president also had a misquoted announcement on his take regarding the reopening of classes. President Duterte mentioned about his opposition on the opening schools until a vaccine is available for COVID-19, but the Palace quickly clarified that the president was referring to physical classes on his statement.
Blended learning
The education secretary reminded the public that the safety and health of their teachers and students are still the priority, which is why they are introducing the blended learning system.
We are in line with the goal of the president, “no face to face classes.”
The blended learning system planned by the Department of Education will be composed of a mix of online learning modules and air time lessons through radio and television.
The department is putting up with alternative ways of delivering education to the students despite the restriction of no physical classes.
Briones is calling out the public to support the government on this new normal of delivering education. They cannot promise perfect execution. This is the first time the country will be in blended learning. The education secretary is looking for encouraging criticisms to help them improve the system.
