Additional teaching resources needed as New South Wales plans to reopen schools by June

School administrators call the NSW government to fund small-group tutorials and additional teaching resources as schools set to resume.

Additional  teaching resources needed

Education specialists ask schools to provide the necessary aid for students who took quite a long break from school since the lockdown over COVID-19 took place. Additional teaching resources are necessary to ensure that all students are on equal footing as they resume classes this June.
Schools administrators from state-funded schools in New South Wales urge the government to increase school funding, for the purpose of acquiring additional workforce to help in the return of students to class.
Teachers felt they were undermined by the plans of the NSW Department of Education. They weren’t properly informed and got the details on such short notice. Teachers Federation President in NSW, Angelo Gavrielatos, described it as very disrespectful to found about the government’s plan over the news instead of them being informed firsthand.

New guidelines on such short notice

The announcement of NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Monday about the full-scale reopening of schools came with a new set of COVID-19 safety guidelines. These new set of guidelines came in with such short notice, will the school administrators pull it out just in time for the reopening of classes?
Teachers were aggravated with the sudden and short notice changes that the government wanted, without even considering the resources available for the schools and teachers.
After the break students had since the suspension of classes, it is certain that students need a lot of catching up to do. Tutorials and constant follow-ups are essential in helping students, especially the disadvantaged children, to ease in back to class.
But, all these extended efforts will be impossible if additional teaching resources and workforce will not be provided by the government. Assessments coming from the department are yet to be available for teachers to rate; this will help them understand the help needed by each student.
In social distancing, class numbers might be reduced to half, and the other half of the class will certainly need a new teacher to handle it. Aside from this, additional teachers are needed to conduct small group tutorials, especially for literacy and numeracy subjects, which is essential in the children’s education.
