How will students and teachers adjust if classes resume this year?
A new norm as classes resume
It is still unclear if schools in the US are sets to open this year or not amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The US suffered major losses when the virus hit the country. The country is still fighting off the virus, and the number of cases can’t be considered as manageable as of now.
Opening of schools is quite questionable for now, and if ever classes resume in the US, it won’t be the same as it was before the coronavirus pandemic.
In a scenario that classes resume with the virus still lurking around, what are we going to expect?
Increases sanitation measures
One of the most important aspects of controlling the spread of the virus is sanitation. Schools will invest more in cleaning equipment and sanitation materials to ensure all corners of the school are contamination free. An additional workforce should also be a concern for sanitation to cover the whole school premises and school services used for student’s transportation.
Personal protective equipment
Schools must also acquire protective equipment for their teachers and staff to keep them and students safe. If possible, housing teachers and staff can assure that external factors do not contaminate them as they travel from home to the school.
Students should also be required to wears masks and undergo thermal scanning as they enter school premises at all times.
Social distancing
Students should observe social distancing at all times. Cafeterias should be redesigned to ensure that students are properly distanced from each other, or if possible, students will have their foods at their desks to regulate physical contact even more.
If possible, all students will be transported to and from the school by school buses to ensure their safety from external factors that may transmit the virus.
School district officials are considering a lot of things regarding the situation of the students. If physical classes are impossible to resume this year, it is expected that total distance learning will be considered and imposed nationwide.
The only thing that is certain as of now is uncertainty.
