Coronavirus antibody development in Israel fast-tracked in the fight against the pandemic

New research in Israel has been able to isolate the monoclonal neutralizing coronavirus antibody. Scientists have indicated this antibody will be used to develop a cure for those infected with the virus.
Search for coronavirus cure or a vaccine has led Israel researchers to consider using antibodies developed after getting infected with the virus. Scientists are working on the theory that, once infected by the virus, people who recover from it develop antibodies that help them fight any other subsequent reinfection in the future.
Antibodies are created by the body by the body’s immune system to fight any invading threat that would compromise the host’s health.

Research on coronavirus antibody

In the search for coronavirus antibodies, scientists from the Israel Institute for Biological Research said they had been able to isolate the monoclonal neutralizing antibody which was capable of being used as a treatment for coronavirus. The antibody would neutralize the coronavirus inside carrier bodies.
The announcement about the discovery was made by the Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennet. He termed the research findings as a significant breakthrough and expressed optimism that the coronavirus antibody treatment will be able to cure the virus.
Professor Shmuel Shapiro who works at the research institute said they were in the process of getting a patent for their work. Once done, they would hire an international manufacturer to mass-produce the coronavirus antibodies and make them available for those affected by the virus.
The only path for reopening countries currently on lockdown due to the virus is either through finding a cure or a vaccine. Israel relaxed its restriction few days ago allowing some business to reopen across the country.
Countries around the world such as the UK and France are also researching the coronavirus antibodies and how they can use them as treatment of vaccines. However, there have been reports on a few cases where people infected with the virus, got reinfected again.
Over 3.6 million people have been infected by the virus with more than 255,000 people succumbing to it. The lockdowns have also affected billions of people across the globe.
