DepEd Commons receives overwhelming support from 2 million users

The Department of Education’s new online platform, DepEd Commons receives overwhelming support from almost two million active users.

Over two million users registered in DepEd Commons

More than a week after the Department of Education has made its leap into virtual learning through DepEd Commons; the department is proud to announce the warm support the project has received. The online learning platform was introduced as an alternative due to the suspension of physical classes worldwide.
With the indefinite timeline on the resumption of normal classes due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the department clings on the possibility of launching the DepEd Commons project nationwide as an alternative for physical classes. When the enhance community quarantine was declared in the country’s capital, everything except for food institutions, healthcare providers, grocery supplies, and goods delivery was forced to halt operations.

DepEd in partnership with ICT

In order to make the DepEd Commons project a success, DepEd partnered with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to develop and make the project functional.
From the recent data given by DepEd Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua, the virtual learning project has more than two million registered users, with an average of 150,000+ registrations daily. The data is quite overwhelming for a project that is still in its testing phase, and the department surely wants this momentum to continue until the project is in its full capacity.
We decided to give the DepEd functionality a try and this is what we came up with:

Then deciding to view the files, we ended up with this:
deped commons

So, we downloaded the file. One slide in the PowerPoint presentation looked like this:

I suggest those in charge of the modules to make sure that the materials being uploaded are suitable for the grade level and objective. A lot remains to be improved which includes the text and the artwork, but for now, let’s say it’s a good start to get everyone productively involved.

Promise to finish the project as early as possible

In charge of this project is Undersecretary (USec), Alain del Pascua. He finished Civil Engineering at Adamson University and was awarded the Presidential Medallion and Campus Leadership Awards. He was also the first president of the Adamson University Student Government who was elected for two consecutive terms and represented the country in a World Youth Congress in Moscow, Russia.

Even with its limited functions as of the moment, we were not expecting the huge amount of users accessing the platform. We are glad aand overwhelmed with the support, and promise to finish the project as early as possible.
-Alain del Pascua

With an expected implementation of a nationwide enhanced quarantine protocol, DepEd views this as an opportunity to introduce the new online platform to teachers and students stuck at home that are still eager to learn despite the physical restrictions.
