Showcasing the four pillars of change

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh government, its education experienced a major revamp and rebooting. The inauguration of these major changes will be showcased this coming March 1.
The major focus in the revamp of the education system in Andhra Pradesh is explained in the “Four Pillars of Change.” And the pillars are as follows:

  • Shifting of education instructions and guidelines from the traditional Telugu native language into English
  • Adapting the curriculum into current industry needs, having a more realistic approach to learning
  • Major reconstruction of various educational institutions
  • Student beneficial facilities such as daily nutritional programs and free school supplies

The success of the four pillars of change is expected to help around 80 million students from over 62,000 schools across Andhra Pradesh. This is certainly a massive revamp that the state’s education system is in need of.

Adapting to the English language medium of teaching

Changing the language used for teaching is probably the biggest obstacle in the reform program.
For the English language medium of teaching to be successful, teachers will be the first to undergo training and familiarity. Most of the teachers are then so comfortable using the native language that some might even refrain from following the new guidelines in using the English language while teaching.
Training will cover around one million teachers across the state. The training will go all the way down to community-based schools as much as possible.
The English learning program will start as early as possible. Grades one to three will undergo a two-months learning course that will be composed of exposure to the English language through means of movies, educational videos, and lots of digital materials. The purpose of this course is to expose young students to the English medium to help them do better in the higher grade levels.
Grades four and five will undergo go into a two-months bridge program on the English language. The program will bee conducted in residential schools, which means the school will also provide the food and lodging of the students during the course on their two-months bridge program.
