Almost half of Americans (around 44 percent) are most concerned with achieving their financial goals for 2020. Saving money is actually not as easy as it may sound like, and with numerous temptations out there to spend our money in makes it a very tricky resolution.
According to a survey from Capital One Financial Milestones, 71 percent of Americans are planning to save their money while 34 percent plans to pay off existing debts.
The survey also showed that in saving money, 51 percent of Americans opted to eat out less, with 21 percent of which consider packing lunch for work or school. Monthly subscriptions are also a thing that 47 percent of the respondents think they should take away from their expense; this includes cable tv subscription.
But, CNBC Select gives another option in saving money. They suggest having a credit card. Certain credit cards will let you save hundreds on eating out at partnered restaurants, monthly subscription deals, and even grocery shopping.
How can a credit card help save money?
Using a credit card on your regular purchases gives you reward points. On average, a credit card holder in the U.S. can earn over $2000 worth of rewards by using their credit card for daily transactions such as food, groceries, and gas.
CNBC Select looks into the categories that most Americans consider cutting off from their expenses, and coincidentally the same categories belong to where credit card rewards can be redeemed.
Instead of cutting out the things that make you happy, just simply enjoy it and let the rewards compensate for your money-saving resolution.
CNBC Select prefer the following credit cards based on the type of transaction you have:
Restaurants
- American Express Gold Card
- Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card
Entertainment
- U.S Bank Cash+ Visa Signature
- Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card
Monthly Subscriptions
- Wells Fargo Propel American Express Card
- Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express
The key is to always pay your bills on time and in full. And make sure to do not overspend.
