The proper way to revise for January exams without ruining your holiday season

January exams are nerve-wracking because they are right after the holidays. Many students end up failing these exams because of the lack of scheduling and inability to manage their time. The approach to revising for January exams also contributes to this failure for a lot of students. However, with proper planning and organization, you can be able to revise for these exams effectively. Here are some of the methods you may use.

Avoid phone while revising for January exams

Phones, tablets, computers provide unnecessary distractions. Therefore, turning off your phone or some apps on your phone that might distract you can really help you in your revision.

Use past papers

Most of the questions that are set on any subject are mostly recycled from past papers. Therefore, using past papers gives you an edge of knowing how questions are framed and also you may be lucky and find questions in past papers that will make it to your January exams.

Keep the revision active

Studies have shown that writing small notes while revising can create new neural connections and improve memory. Carina Cunha of tutoring firm Crimson Education also said that rewriting notes can help trigger new memories. She continued by saying, “It can also help you organise the material better, making your notes easier to understand and absorb. It’s beneficial to then read them aloud – you are more likely to remember something this way than you would by reading the material in your head.”
Therefore, being active while the study will help you remember a lot of content you are revising. It will also improve your memory.

Create your timetable

Research has shown that morning hours are the most effective time for studying. While planning on how you will approach your exam revisions, you should consider the time you can function optimally. You should also get enough sleep to ensure that you are not tired while studying. This will help you improve your score for the January Exams.
