Middle schoolers left disappointed as the school principal cancelled their expected classroom pizza party.
Classroom pizza party cancelled
Parents from Brody Middle School in Des Moines expressed their disappointment against the school principal through social media.
What is the reason for the ire of the parents?
They found out that the school principal has just cancelled a classroom pizza party that their children had been looking forward to for weeks, leaving the children disappointed and sad.
A teacher from Brody Middle School organized a classroom pizza party as a motivational reward system for her hard-working students. The students waited for weeks to receive their prize, only to be spoiled at the last minute.
Thursday, the pizza for the class arrived, which got the whole class very excited. But Principal Hoffman of Brody Middle School, called off the celebration, saying he didn’t authorize the classroom pizza party, and it will be unfair for other students who are not part of the celebration.
Parents bashed Brody Principal
After hearing what happened to the cancelled classroom pizza party, parents blasted Principal Hoffman for being rude and insensitive towards their children.
One angry parent, Neil Erickson, posted his disappointment on Facebook and has now gained thousands of shares and reactions from netizens.
According to Erickson’s post,
My son goes to Brody Middle School here in Des Moines. He told me that his teacher promised them a classroom pizza party as a reward for their hard work in class. He has been excited for days, and now, the excitement turned into disappointment after the Principal called off the celebration.
The gesture was initiated by the teacher for seeing all the hard work her students put into their studies. She even had the budget for the pizza party taken from her personal funds. She acknowledged the mistake of not informing the Principal ahead of time, but she did not expect that it will be called off just like that.
Principal apologizes
Principal Hoffman apologized for the disappointment he caused the students.
On a statement released by the Principal,
I apologize for cancelling the celebration, just that, I believe I was acting based on the interest of all students at Brody Middle School. As the Principal, my main priority is fairness and equal opportunity for all our students. But, I do admit I was overly strict in applying my standards on the case of the students expecting the pizza party.
After the incident grew viral, Hoffman added that the school is very welcome to receive donations for a pizza party for all students at Brody, as a way of sending them off for Winter Break.
