In a bid to achieve academic excellence Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha has demanded that teachers have a better and healthy relationship with their students.
Naveen made this call while speaking at the Utkal University convocation ceremony. He emphasized that the two are essential for any academic establishment to attain new heights, as they are the soul of any academic institution.
The Chief Minister of Odisha told teachers that the objective of education should be to develop innovative ideas, leadership quality, and broaden the outlook of the students so that they become able to dream big and contribute on a global scale.
He added that this won’t be possible without a healthy relationship between students and teachers.
Naveen further said that students should be taught how to utilize their talents for the well-being of humanity and their community. He added that students should not just be taught how to make living, but should learn how to make a life. Stating he wants the new generation to be both economic and social entrepreneurs.
Present at the convocation ceremony was President Ram Nath Kovind who called for cooperation and more involvement of every sector towards the improvement and achievement of academic excellence.
MadhuApp for schoolchildren
Naveen Patnaik had earlier in the week launched a smart learning phone application ‘MadhuApp’ for school children.
The app named after Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das has been developed by the Ganjam district administration in accordance with the 5T initiative of the state government.
The application is equipped with video lectures and exercises in Odia language by leading subject experts and educationists. In the first phase, the study material has been created for Mathematics and Science Subjects of classes V to Vlll.
The Chief Minister said the app is aimed at helping school students in learning their lessons through videos and tutorials.
Naveen Patnaik distributes laptops
The Odisha Chief Minister also distributed free laptops to meritorious students for the 2019-20 academic sessions. Naveen gave the devices to 10 deserving class 12 students, under the ‘Biju Sashaktikaran Yojana’.
Arun Kumar Sahoo, the Higher Education Minister, said the students were shortlisted at the district level by a selection committee constituted by the state government.
A total of 9,491 meritorious students from the general category and 5,509 of them from the SC/ST categories were selected for distribution of the laptops.
Notably, since 2013, the Odisha government has been providing 15,000 laptops each year to meritorious students.
According to Sahoo, over 90,203 students have been covered under the scheme.
