Labour Party pushes for libraries to continue operation

Labour party

Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn assures the protection of public libraries as long as they are in position.

Labour Party inclined to protect public libraries

LONDON – During his speech at the Theatre Royal Stanford East, Labour party leader Jeremy Corbin fired against the Conservative Party’s policy on public libraries.

They’ve closed hundreds of public libraries because they do not give importance and don’t want to give importance to libraries providing free services.

Corbyn left a guarantee to everyone that if the Labour Party is seated in position, they will help protect the interest of public libraries.
Statistically wise, during the last time Labour was in power in 2009-2019, around 4,482 public libraries are functional all across Britain. As of 2018, the numbers have diminished to 3,618.

A lot of libraries were closed, those that remained have operating hours being cut. Some were handed over to voluntary groups, and this is clearly an abandonment of public responsibility,

The love for libraries

Growing up in a small town in Shropshire, Corbyn was enthusiastic with books even at a young age and volunteered as a librarian at school.

Having a library across our house, I usually stay there after school, staring at the big atlases. Libraries gave me the enthusiasm in life that I want everybody to discover too.

Based on the Labour Party’s proposal, a $1.29 billion cultural capital fund will be pledged to transform museums, libraries, and galleries all across Britain.

The funding will be used to ensure libraries are preserved and updated with computers.

The proposed budget by Conservatives for library support was around $423 million.

That sounds nice, but for five years, it questionable if it can sustain the costs of rehabilitation and maintenance.

It was also found out at that during the Conservative’s term, and there was a yearly decline in budget intended for libraries all across Britain.
