Arts education: Crucial in nurturing engaged students

Arts education

The fundamentality of arts education is no longer in oblivion as educators are laying considerable emphasis in this area.
Realistically, for the last 36 years, testing has been substantially highlighted, but this trend is changing because educators have realized the importance of arts education in developing engaged students.

Arts education highly regarded

Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School (SMS) has been nurturing incredible arts talents.
Kaufman Music Center is located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and it has done an outstanding job of availing SMS as it is the only public school in the United States to integrate a full academic program with performance-oriented training.
With a student population of 200, SMS has been propelling arts education, and most learners have been prosperous. For instance, Anani Ramos joined the institution and found it ideal in optimizing her talent of singing classical compositions as she had been doing this from age eight.
SMS enabled Ramos to harness her full music potential by studying music-related courses, such as chorus, big band, orchestra, technology, composition, history, and theory. She was also able to explore more standard high school topics, such as science, math, history, and English.

Arts education being stressed by education activists and teachers

Across the US, education activists and teachers have taken the mandate of airing the fundamentality of arts as provided by SMS.
They have, therefore, been highlighting the vitality of integrating arts education, such as theater, music, fine arts, and dance into the academic curriculum for every learner irrespective of talent level.
This approach is being supported by various teachers’ unions, such as the National Education Association.
On the other hand, representatives of thirteen of the most renowned theaters in England have expressed their concerns about the state of arts education in the country.
According to the art directors of theaters like the Bristol Old Vic, or the Chichester Festival Theatre, education in art subjects is underfunded continuously. What is more worrying to directors is the cuts in school curriculum have made graduates under-prepared.
