Education and carrier: Efficient ways of bridging the gap

Bridging gap between education and carrier

Universities are implementing programs that are bridging education and carrier gaps. These steps are meant to facilitate smooth smooth transition from graduation to working environments.
Computational skills are increasingly becoming a fundamental part of the education system and everyday job being offered. In 2020, for instance, 77 percent of jobs available will require a degree with technical skills. Technology interaction in places of work is also growing and it doesn’t matter whether one is working in the healthcare sector, running a business or they are in a public relations department.

Steps to bridge education and carrier gaps

The main challenge from this drastic change in technological requirements in job markets has been the lack of skilled workers. The graduates applying for these jobs are also not proficient enough to handle these jobs. This, therefore, causes the need for universities to ensure that they prepare these students for future jobs.
As a start, universities should reflect on their programming and how they deliver educational material to their students. They should be market savvy to ensure that the skills they are teaching to meet the job market criteria. This will ensure that graduating students have an edge when searching for jobs and also when doing the jobs.
The University of Texas, for example, has been at the forefront in integrating technology in their learning curriculum. They have realized that this is the path to bridge the education and carrier gap – capture students, education stakeholders, and businesses looking to hire their graduates.

Bridge the education and carrier gap using technology

Hillary Procknow, director for the Core Curriculum and Texas Success Initiative at the University of Texas is quoted as saying,

We want to encourage students to take a technology-focused course, but (we) don’t have enough seats for everyone to take one. Technology should be introduced in context, you should be encountering technology in your major courses.

Digital education is also another way being used to bridge the education and carrier gap using technology. Many schools have opted to have their courses easily accessible online. Digital platforms have also made gains in the education system and they are becoming increasingly popular among students who want to advance their classwork and familiarize themselves with new technologies and knowledge.
Hillary’s explanation underpins the efforts being made by universities to bridge the gap between technology and career paths. It is happening all across the nation where universities have invested heavily to ensure students are well equipped.
