The Data Science School in University of Virginia (UVA) will finally materialize this September 2019 after the state of Virginia approved the final clearance that paved the way.

The wave of joy among the school administrators and stakeholders could not be hidden after the approval. This is expected to be the biggest project that UVA has undertaken in over a decade which is expected to expand on the technological goals of the school. The school’s majority of its funding will come from donors from Charlottesville-based Quantitative Foundation who contributed $120 million.
Data Science School is the 12th UVA school
The amount is expected to be used in its totality in the development of the new school. Although the information is not available as to whether this amount will be enough, UVA is very excited to undertake this project. The Data Science School construction will be the first project since 2007 and will be the 12th school in UVA.
Provost Elizabeth Magill while describing this project is quoted as saying;
The school is coming online at a time when the amount of available data in the world is more than doubling every two years, and there is soaring demand for qualified data scientists who can analyze and interpret vast amounts of data.
She also added that the new school will increase the speed of data collection and research in data science field adding that it will also help students in solving societal challenges and come up with working solutions. She is optimistic that the school will produce creative and responsible leaders who will use data-driven solutions in their day-to-day activities in whichever field they may end up working.
Philip E. Bourne has been appointed as the new Dean of the Data Science School and expected to begin work once the project is completed.
