LGBT university students supported by colleagues

The LGBT community has been calling for inclusivity in many societal areas, and learning institutions are not an exemption. LGBT students have been thriving in many institutions of higher learning, and their existence can no longer be ignored.
The vulnerability of the LGBT OR LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) community is an issue that should not be ignored in the present society.
Educators, therefore, have an obligation of caring for LGBT students and staff, as evidenced by inclusivity programs by various players, such as Stonewall Diversity Champions

The well-being of LGBT students

Stakeholders in the education sector have been asked to respect the gender identity of LGBT students as this plays an instrumental role in propelling inclusivity in the learning environment.
As a result, educators have a crucial duty of ensuring that this aspect is adhered to as this makes academic freedom inevitable.
All LGBT members in learning institutions, such as professional-services staff, lecturers, and undergraduate students, among others, should be availed with a supportive and secure environment that prompt the realization of their freedoms.

The rights of LGBT students

The rights of the entire LGBT community in universities, such as safe debate and free speech, ought to be respected. Nevertheless, these liberties are, at times, hindered because LGBT students learn and live in universities with fear.
As a result, the relevant stakeholders in higher learning institutions should come up with strategies that support the rights of LGBT staff and students.
On the other hand, various strategies have been crafted so that inclusivity can be prompted among LGBT students. For instance, in 2018, the University of Sheffield in the UK introduced solitary LGBT accommodation flats that are continuously being embraced. Additionally, an LGBT curriculum was recently established in Illinois, United States
Learning institutions are, therefore, gearing towards embracing the LGBT community.
