YouTube video irked Pasco community; privacy laws up for debate in Oct

Pasco school district prohibits unauthorized video recording after Youtube controversy.

Parents, children, the Pasco community at large and the school administration were all angry with the upload of the YouTube video; they saw it as an invasion to their privacy and rightly so because they had not given consent to be recorded and also uploaded to a Youtube channel that has more than a million subscribers.
Pasco district has had to rethink new ways on how to handle school video recording with a significant part of this decision being concern over privacy. How well the kids, school administrators, teachers, and even workers were exposed when a new family who runs a popular Youtube channel moved into the neighborhood.
The family shares almost all their activities with their fans and with a YouTube channel that has over 1 million subscribers, it means that the content regularly goes viral. This has never been an issue to them and after moving into the neighborhood, they continued their hobby or business interest in filming by documenting their daily activities on Youtube.
It was now time for back-to-school and as usual, the family had their cameras rolling for the new experience. Pasco school district had no laws prohibiting them from recording and they were within their right to do so. They filmed with no problem and everything went smoothly as expected.
The reactions they got after uploading the video on their YouTube channel caught them off guard.

New laws on YouTube video uploading

Pasco school district had always had tougher filming regulations for their students but had nothing about visitors and parents. This, however, is about to change with the new laws coming into effect.
This will mean that nobody can film without the explicit consent of those who are being filmed. This is a way to strengthen people’s privacy rights and also their security.
The school had also been told to force the parents to remove the video, but they found themselves in a difficult situation because the parents had not committed a crime then. However, the video has now been removed from the channel although the school has insisted that it had no part in that decision.
The board is expected to vote on these new regulations on October 1 this year. Pasco County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida.
